Article Languages

Publishing Articles in Multiple Languages

If your organization is spread across multiple countries, you might need to have articles available in different languages. And Atobi is here to help you with this.

Article Language

Each Article has a Main Language. The Main language is used as a fallback and for editing. Let’s say the Main language of an article is Spanish. If any audience members with French as their primary interface language have access to an article that has not been translated into French, they will see the Spanish (Main Language) version instead.

How to Add an Additional Language

If you need your article available in multiple languages, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Languages.
  2. Select Language Settings.

  1. Choose what language you want for the article by clicking on the drop-down menu.
  2. Search and select the language you need.

Note: You can only add and delete blocks from the Main Language. Additional languages are only for translating and localizing the content.

How to Change the Main Language

If you want to set another language as the Main language, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Languages.
  2. Select Language Settings.
  3. Click on the options menu (3 dots) next to the language you want as your Main Language.
  4. Choose Set as Main Language.

Your Main Language has now been updated.

Viewing Translated Articles

To view an article in a translated language, members need to set their interface language to the desired language. Once this is done, they will automatically see the article in that language if a translation is available. For example, if the article has been translated into French, a member with French as their interface language will automatically see the article in French.

Important: Before adding or changing a language for a member, the language must first be created in the system! Learn how to do that here.

Giving Access to Collaborators

If you've added additional languages to your article and need help with translations, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Languages.
  2. Select Language Settings.
  3. Click the Collaborator Icon (next to the language you want to add the collaborator to.
  4. Search for or select the person you want to add as a collaborator.

To remove a collaborator, click on the Collaborator Icon next to the language they are part of in Language Settings. Then, click on their profile icon at the top of the list and select to remove them.

Remember: Blocks can only be added, moved, and deleted from the Main Language.

  • If a collaborator is added to the main language, they will have permissions to add, delete, and move blocks around.
  • If a collaborator is added to other languages (besides the main language), they can only update the blocks that have already been added. This means they can only translate and localize the content, but cannot alter the structure of the article itself.

Note:

  • Collaborators need an Atobi account and access to Article Studio.
  • You can copy the article link and share it with the collaborators.
  • From Language Settings, you will have an overview of all the collaborators and languages for your article.
